Gratitude

Being frustrated with my job search, I frequently find myself in a rut of negativity.  Several friends have suggested some version of a gratitude list.  Things that make me happy.  Things that are going right.  Etc. Etc.

Visit periodically because this list should be getting longer and you’ll be here to nudge if it’s not.

  • Bookmooch’s selection is improving dramatically of late. I like it!
  • Indoor cycling programs that kick my ass — sweating buckets — might it be time to renew that certification?
  • Netflix ships on Saturdays now!
  • I looked over at the guy next to me at the gym; chick-me was using a heavier bar than him to do bicep curls. . . girl power!
  • Making chocolate covered strawberries is more fun and cheaper than buying them
  • Creed’s Virgin Island Water takes me to a happy place; someday I’ll be to afford a whole bottle, not just a decanted sample
  • Pomegranates – pockets of juicy, ruby goodness that go squirt in your mouth
  • Multi-ply cashmere at post x-mas, recession prices
  • Beginning to trust my character judgement a bit more; it’s OK not to like everyone. No guilt here.
  • Chicken fajita bowls w/ guacamole from Chipotle on Saturday afternoons
  • Awesome produce from the local farmer’s market today
  • A $25 gift iTunes gift card from a pilates student from the gym :)
  • $80 in credit at Amazon.com from my brother  — just what I need, more books!
  • Mac Users can now use Netflix’s Watch Now Feature
  • President-Elect Barack Obama
  • Lots of product donations scored for the wellness bags this year. . . Outreach smart, not randomly!
  • Watched 7 seasons of The West Wing during election season 2008 — that this show lasted 7 seasons gives me hope people are ready to vote for a Bartlet-esque/Santosian candidate (Obama)
  • 70+ y.o. instructor who teaches countless yoga and pilates classes each week, taught in the slot after me today. . . he told me he watched the class, and it looked beautiful. . . made my day.
  • Deodorant crystals are long lasting, cheap, and effective. They also are supposed to eliminate sweat stains, since it’s allegedly the chemicals in commercial deodorant, not sweat that yields pit stains.
  • I went to see As U2 Like It, and can’t get the scene proving all U2 tunes sound the same out of my head — the actors’ delivery was brilliant.
  • I’ve got lots of blogging ideas and don’t know what issue to write about first.
  • I got my resume back from the resume writer; quick aesthetics test with random people yields two thumbs up; presumably the content would be approved as well.
  • My head cold is only half as intense as usual — I credit coconut oil.
  • If I go for a walk at the park across the street at 7pm, the entire neighborhood is there walking their pets.  I am surrounded by happy dogs, hanging out with their owners. . . No single hotties as of yet, but I keep my fingers crossed.
  • String beans are an awesome and tasty green vegetable. Yes, despite my love of orange and white foods, I will occasionally hop on the vegetable wagon.
  • Whole Foods sells dried coconut shavings. . . at this point I want to move to an uninhabited tropical island and make coconut my world.
  • BC’s editor complimented my (mostly) consistently strong writing.
  • I get between 40-50 minutes of cardio in EVERY day and have vastly improved my cardiovascular endurance in the past year.  Taking 8 flights of stairs up at the parking garage, just slightly winded.
  • All my quiet community-building work online for my favorite non-profit is about to get rolled out to the entire membership nationwide. Success!
  • A friend re-evaluating her relationships has decided to spend more time with good people; I made the cut!
  • My resume writer seems to think I’m selling myself very very short.
  • PTrunk thinks I should be submitting op-eds to the NYTimes, implying I can string words together in such a manner that I make a compelling argument.
  • Coconut oil kills my compulsive need for anything sugar-laden.  YAY!!!  Apparently I’ve had some sort of nutritional deficit for 20 years (one I thought was a psychological compulsion) and now am learning how to fix it with better food options. (Susan says my pancreas may have been making a cry for help all these years; I can only hope it forgives me in time)
  • I <3 my apartment. Not only is it a comfortable size, but it’s in a decent neighborhood and I pay about $350 BELOW market value.
